11 days old
Even though Nolan didn't really turn 2 weeks old until Monday, we went for his 2 week check up Friday morning. We had to go in for a weight check anyways, daddy was going to be home Friday, and the pediatrician we had been seeing was going to be out of town the next week. Nolan did really well. He isn't quite up to his birth weight, but he is moving in the right direction. He came in at the 50th percentile for weight, length, and head circumference. I can hardly believe it considering the fact that he was so big at birth! We are definitely happy with 50 %. We don't want him to get too big too fast.
The worst part of the appointment was that Nolan got his first shot )-: Truthfully it might have been worse for mom than it was for Nolan. We didn't get his Hep B vaccine in the hospital. Mommy was still worried about the risks versus benefits of vaccines. Daddy and the pediatrician convinced her that the benefits outweighed the risks. Nolan was really fussy the morning of the appointment. He didn't eat very well, and at some point we just had to go. He was not happy with us on the way to the doctor's office. He finally calmed down while we were in the waiting room. Then the peditrician was running late (despite the fact that we had the first appointment of the day...did they just expect us to be late?) so Nolan was upset again by the time she showed up. After daddy finally got him calm, the lab technician came in and gave him a shot in his leg. Our poor baby screamed. His face went from peaceful (really more of a...I'm hungry and being poked and proded, but really could it get any worse) to being tortured (just got worse) in the blink of an eye. Mommy was sobbing to see her little boy in pain. Nolan recovered (perhaps more quickly than mommy) and got a really tough bandaid for his pain.
